Description It wasn’t until I visited Hawaii that I realized bamboo (竹) wasn’t just a cultural icon—it was also a bit of a rebel. Originally introduced to Hawaii by early Polynesian voyagers for making music instruments, it now grows wildly across the islands. Turns out, bamboo doesn’t just survive—it thrives, wherever it’s planted. In Chinese tradition, bamboo symbolizes resilience, grace, and upright character—growing tall and hollow, yet unbreakable. I painted it in gold against a deep black background to highlight contrast: light and shadow, softness and strength. The black brings stillness and focus, allowing the bamboo to shine—just like how we grow through darkness, quietly but powerfully. This golden bamboo painting blends that heritage with a bit of island surprise, celebrating how something rooted in tradition can flourish anywhere it chooses to grow.text goes here
